Summary/Abstract: Collocations, which can be defined as lexical combinations made up of more than one word and arbitrarily restricted to a certain degree in terms of lexis and / or syntax, have great importance in a native speaker’s competence. Thus, these words are of crucial importance to foreign language learners in the process of using the target language naturally. This article, in which the classification of collocations, their importance and the difficulty they cause for foreign language learners are mentioned, presents a study on the role of mother tongue in the process of students’ collocation use and it also gives examples of classroom activities.
