Summary/Abstract: This work is based on the problem that Spanish is a sexist language or not. In this direction identifying the relationship between language and sex, the biologically defined sex and the socially constructed gender will be clarified. Besides, it will attempt to demonstrate the differences between two concepts. The expressions that caused the Spanish to be described as sexist will be exemplified and will be determined if the base of sexism is language or society. The trends that create the sexist rhetoric will be mentioned giving place to the importance of context, the speaker’s and the listener’s perception of sexism. In this article the solution proposals about the linguistic gender inequality in Spanish will be discussed and finally it will be reviewed how the sexism is perceived during the teaching of Spanish as foreign language.
