Summary/Abstract: Serbia is facing a set of major problems to be resolved. They include corruption, unsettled political difficulties, and a bad economic situation. There is a series of factors which are threatening to seriously endanger the situation in the economic domain. They are the fear of inflation, the balance of payments deficit, large external and internal debts, the foreign exchange policy, extremely low level of investments, rising budget deficit, impossibility of the rise of exports and of debt servicing. unemployment, poverty, social inequality, and the like. The most serious problems Serbia is facing are the high level of corruption, the inefficient state bureaucracy, political culture of the elites. The above requires, therefore, a decisive and persistent policy aimed at curbing the inflation, reducing the public consumption, a tighter and more austere fiscal, monetary and income policy, a serious structural reform of both the real sector of the economy and of the public sector.
