Summary/Abstract: International and domestic legislation concerning the contract of carriage of passengers by sea has been developed aiming at ensuring a high level of protection for passengers in maritime transport. It mainly focuses on the harmonized system of liability and insurance created by PAL 2002. Under EU regulations 392/2009 and 1177/2010, some other standards comparable with different modes of transport are provided, among others, appropriate opportunities for travel for disabled persons or passengers with reduced mobility. These regulations are properly implemented by Polish Maritime Code. In case of ratification of PAL 2002 by Poland, some other amendments will be necessary.
