Summary/Abstract: The article surveys the legal regulations of the United States that provide private law damages for the infringements of human (constitutional) rights. The American law provides damages claims for human rights violations primarily through the law of torts, tort like suits against state entities and officials, specific regulation of certain rights and the Civil Rights Act (constitutional torts). In the final part of the article the Author presents the Alien Tort Statute, the Torture Victims Protection Act, and the Foreign Sovereign Communities Act, which provide for damage claims in cases based on infringements of internationally recognized human rights. The main features of American law are presented at the background of case law.
