TERRORISM AND RELIGION

Summary/Abstract: Religion plays an important role in the society. It is associated with significant aspects of human society. The role of religion is also large in the modern world. The demise of secular ideologies and the need to substantiate the identity during the ongoing social commemorations are among the most important reasons for this. Religion can be used for establishing of violence, of a terror. A number of historical examples are known, affirming such dependence. Binding religion and violence is inherent in modern society. It finds expression in religious terrorism. In its core, this is a quasi-religious terrorism, since religion is being distorted or presented one-side, in order to conceal the true purpose of violence. Fundamentalism is a prerequisite for religious terrorism. Striving to return to the roots, to the output tenets is inherent in every religion. With the mass events in the modern world is characterized religious terrorism associated with Islam. It is governed by a number of one-side notions of basic principles of this religion. Especially dangerous are extremist organizations stating general Islamic nature of their actions.
