Summary/Abstract: There are places, in the state of Paraná, southern Brazil, where even 70% of thepopulation are descendants of Polish immigrants. The history of Polish settlementin this area dates back to the first half of the 19th. century. The paper presents the keyfactors and it lists some events that determine the formation of the Polish nationalidentity in Brasil, taking as an example the county of São Mateus do Sul.
