Summary/Abstract: The author explores the issue of excessive terms whose basic meaning has been manipulated or altered to the extent that it now represents the opposite of original meaning. Starting from the point that the term “intellectual” is a stably formed notion, based upon the experience and concrete examples, the text reassesses the conditions that have led to the inversion of meaning in the common use. Created disharmony between the basic meaning and mimic- like use of the term becomes the object of analysis: although the term “intellectual” is being approached as a constant that re- emerges indepentently form the context, the analysis is directed, at the same time, towards the issue of the possibility of the intellectual’s existence in the era of institutionalized organization of technical society (system) and its policy of truth. The author approaches the resolvement of this issue from the linguistical and historical perspective, proposing the exploration of familiar words within language and the struggle for precise meanings as prompt and most important works of the humanities.
