Summary/Abstract: The article explores the meaning and usages of "communicative and cultural memory" in the context of "mental maps". It looks particularly at theories which, on the basis of constructed symbolic divisions (such as "Europe" vs. "Balkans"), connote a "lasting Balkan/European reality".
