Summary/Abstract: The article is inspired by a column written by Kurt Tucholsky, a German Weimar-era journalist little known in Poland. Like the journalist, the article’s author looks for the ten principles defining the modern bourgeoisie. The present text, unlike Tucholsky’s columns, is based on empirical research conducted in Kalisz and Erfurt. Unlike the German journalist, the author also defines the term “bourgeoisie”. The ten principles are a pretext for developing the author’s own sociological reflections on everyday life in two Central European cities. Keywords: everyday life, sense of belonging, relationships between women and men, lifestyles, children’s education, (socialist) past, politics.
