Video Art – Phenomenon of Audio Visual Culture

Summary/Abstract: Video art, its aesthetic, social, artistic value are analyzed in the article. Video art is revealed as a phenomenon of modern visual culture, one of the major forms of audiovisual expression. Parallel art branches: television, photography and cinema, which conditioned the emergence of video art, have been studied in detail. Cinema, closely related to video art, is discussed in more detail and by contrastive analysis contributes disclosing the peculiarities of the analyzed artistic expression. Because of a lack of analysis methods in video art and traditions vital problematic questions have been raised and attempts have been made to answer them with reference to various studies on art criticism and philosophy.
