Summary/Abstract: Epaminonda Lucaciu was the first greek-catholic missionary priest sent in the United States of America. He is considered the promoter of the establishment of the first Greek Catholic parish in North America. In the autumn of 1905 he founded the greek-catholic church in Cleveland, Ohio. In the coming years, Epaminonda Lucaciu also founded parishes in the towns of Aurora, Tranton, Roebeling and Dayton. Lucaciu was actively involved in the cultural life of romanians. He published the first romanian newspaper: ,,Românul din America” (December 28, 1905), ,,Catolicul American” and ,,Românul din New York”. The priest took the initiative to open an emigration house in New York. The emigration house ,,Aurora” was intended to romanians who wanted to immigrate in the United States. In 1921, he ended his missionary work and returned home. On October 11, 1921, he became priest in village Şişeşti. Epaminonda Lucaciu died on July 29, 1960 and was buried with his parents in the church crypt in Şişeşti.
