The aim of Westernization project is to try to construct a national music and that is what Turkish people needs. Traditional Turkish Art Music was left because ideologists declare that this music was not originally Turk and source reach over to Arabic and Byzantine music. Government declared that this music was undesirable and banned from the radio station in 1934. The same thing was seen in popular music during 1970s. The TRT tried to form and control the musical taste of people by the rules of Music Auditing Committee.
