Summary/Abstract: One of the most controversial life stories related to preparations for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, and also in relation to the post-war reconstruction of how it played out, remains the fate of Ladislav Vaněk (1906–1993), a functionary of the Czechoslovak national Sokol organisation, organiser of the Sokol resistance, and later prisoner of the Gestapo. As one of the few surviving direct actors, he logically became a hard to ignore source of information on one of the most important operations of the Czechoslovak foreign and domestic resistance. A number of his problematic claims, presented in various versions essentially until the fall of the Communist regime, could not be published without the assistance of the totalitarian propaganda machine, prospectively the State Security. What relationship did the secret police have toward Ladislav Vaněk?
