Summary/Abstract: This article presents the analysis of seven iron battle axes preserved in the Teleorman County Museum collections. Enriching the archaeological finds in Walachia, these artefacts were discovered in the Vedea and Teleorman rivers basins (at Măgura, Valea Părului and Ştorobăneasa), and in the Urlui valley (Troianu). These are rare finds in settlements dating to the VIII-X centuries, and almost all of them are fortuitous finds or form part of tool and weaponry hoards. Usually considered as poor examples of weaponry and military equipment of the time, the seven battle axes discussed here, however, offer a wealth of information shedding light on an often unclear and complex reality. Until recently only 29 battle axes were known in the Carpathians and Danube area: 12 from fortuitous finds, three from burials and 14 as part of tool and weaponary hoards. The seven discussed here, of which three form part of the Valea Părului hoard, add to those discoveries.
