Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to highlight the process of origin as well as realization of the international synthesis on outlaw tradition in the Carpathian region. There are three component parts of the synthesis: the folklore traditions about the robbers, the Carpathian area itself, and the relations between its inhabitants. Interethnic relations have, of course, their specific features. The International Commission for the Study of People’s Culture (MKKK) from its very beginning (initiated by Polish, Czech and Slovak ethnographers in 1959 in Cracow) aimed to such issues as cultural community, ethnic processes and inter-ethnic relations, knowledge of which is important not only from national, but also from international point of view. The Carpathological, ethnographic and folklore issues found their expression in domestic as well as bilateral international research programs and agreements. Several meetings, conferences on the concept, schedule of work and arrangement of international cooperation were held from 60th. The study of the problem has had chronological dimenson, from its very beginning until publishing of the issue which is the result of work of folklorists from the Middle and East Europe.
