Summary/Abstract: This paper presents an attempt at analyzing phraseological units taken from The Mountain Wreath from the perspective of contrastive and translation analysis. The approach encompasses both theoretical and practical aspects of translation, hence the two main sections within the paper. The first section presents some of the leading translation theories in the field i.e. sets up the theoretical framework for the analysis. The second part presents the analysis of the given phraseological units, its aim being to determine: the extent to which the units in question are translatable into English, the level of their equivalence with the ones in the source language, potential problems in translation, examples of inadequate translation and the underlying causes.
