HOW DOES THE USE OF SOCIAL NETWORKING AFFECT FAMILY COMMUNICATION OF TEENAGERS?

Summary/Abstract: The social network sites have had important impacts on the people who use them in their daily life frequently. This situation is also true for teenagers. The number of teenagers using social network sites has been increasing continuously in the last decade and its use has become an important part of teenagers’ daily life. This frequent utilization has started to affect their social life and communication skills. In this paper, I examine whether the use of social network sites by teenagers affects the face to face communication of teenagers with their family members. If it does affect the communication with them, I want to investigate whether it is considered as a problem by teenagers. I have made a survey about the use of social networks and communication periods of teenagers with family members. I have conducted the survey on 445 teenagers from two different cities, Bucharest and Constanta in Romania.
