Summary/Abstract: Circumcision is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures in the world. It is performed both due to medical indications as well as for social reasons. In this review, the influence of circumcision on the prevalence HIV infection, other sexually transmitted diseases, urogenital tract infections, and penile cancer is presented. Medical and psychological complications of the procedure are also described, and the problem of sexual satisfaction after circumcision is also tackled.
