Summary/Abstract: The paper addresses the regulatory and institutional framework for the shale gas sector, which is now emerging in Poland. The author refers to the recent Ministry of Environment’s geology and mining law amendment proposal, which envisages certain new building blocks of the regulatory framework for the sector. Given that the proposal draws upon the Norwegian model of state supervision over the gas and oil sector, the main part of the paper focuses on the presentation of the main assumptions and elements of that model, in particular on the concession system. Doubts as to whether the Norwegian model – based on the considerable state supervision – is in fact adequate in the still underdeveloped institutionary landscape in Poland are raised in the closing remarks.
