Andrej Mitrović on Importance of Research in Economic History

Summary/Abstract: In the mid-20th century first serious doubts arose about the aim and purpose of historiography. Due to its outstanding social significance, the first question was posed whether historiography is meant to be the evidence of historical conscience or the means of questioning it. The interests in historiographical research were significantly framed by the degree of political and economic development of a particular society. It has come out that underdeveloped democratic regimes, ideologies and political movements are a serious threat to the research in history. The purpose of historical research in such societies is almost exclusively political and ideological, and that is the reason why political phenomena were the main subject of the research.
