Summary/Abstract: The present study encompasses the elements of external and internal architecture of theThree Holy Hierarchs Metropolitan Cathedral of Timisoara, and proposes a review of iconographic themes as Anastase Demian the painter (1899-1977) developed and represented them between 1940-1946. The work of architect Ioan Traianescu (1875-1964), the Cathedral of Timisoara, remarks by majesty and grandeur, as one of the most important places of worship in the interwar period. Following the example of Orthodox edifices throughout the centuries, the Cathedral keeps the traditional division rooted in Byzantium, in terms of architectural plan, namely: altar, nave, narthex, exonarthex. The monument is synthesis of the predominant Moldavian style and the Wallachian one found in the area of inside elements.Fresco painting executed in Byzantine style by the famous painter mentioned above is an original one, authentic, post-Byzantine with deeply rooted elements inspired by native Romanian art.Synthesized drawing, thick, rigorous line, original compositions, balanced and stylish decorations form a unitary relationship with the colour palette.Edifying and creative, Anastase Demian's painting becomes a real preacher of the truths of Christ Gospel, enabling believers anticipation of future life and eternal beauty of Heaven.
