Summary/Abstract: The XVIII century was a particular period of the history of charity. Attitude towards helping the poor and inventive solutions that occurred at that time had features of modern social work. Thanks to their timelessness they found application in many countries and are applied even today. One of the reformers who contributed to revolutionizing the contemporary philanthropy was Benjamin Thompson. He provided inventions and solutions which contributed to socialization of beggars and poor people, made their standard of living higher, were applied all over the world, and are still applied in our times. This outstanding and fascinated by science individual was able to use the results of his experiments so that they could serve all people. Sir Benjamin Thompson and his activity for poor people and improving their living standards are the main focus of the paper.
