Public archaeology of museum complex Orheiul Vechi

Summary/Abstract: Public archaeology is a relatively young scientific discipline which appeared and developed in the western countries starting with the 60-ies and 70-ies of the 20th century in the context of an increased concern in the protection of archaeological heritage and in the context of empowered social groups and local communities. This study represents an introduction in the public archaeology of the Republic of Moldova, whose main concern is the protection of the archeological heritage. It has in its focus the heritage complex Orheiul Vechi, which is an illustrative case of how public archaeology functions in Republic of Moldova, and it analyzes a few issues like the representation of the heritage complex in the museum, press and in educational programs.
