Legislative aspects regarding the protection of the archaeological heritage in the Republic of Moldova (1945-2007)

Summary/Abstract: The cultural heritage represents an important source of knowledge of the past, of inspiration, of values and of identity. The archaeological heritage did not beneficiate from a legal framework and has been treated together with other types of monuments. Three sets of national legislation have been identified which refer directly or indirectly to the archaeological heritage: the protection of historic-cultural monuments; protection of the environment and natural resources; construction and development. The article approaches aspects related to the definition of the archaeological heritage, the regime of property, protection and responsibility for the break of law.
