Summary/Abstract: The article presents the manifestations of Poles’ language awareness in the so-called Saxon era until 1740. The authors of the analyzed writings recognized the bad condition of Polish language, culture and literature. They did not concentrate on specific reasons of this negligence but emphasized that the impasse might be resolved. Some excerpts suggest that people of that time were aware of regional differences in the Polish language. Relatively little attention was given so far to the issue of macaronic language and language style, while more attention was paid to the orthography. The article is based on few selected texts. Thus, the material enables us to reconstruct merely language awareness of the texts’ authors, and no definite conclusions as to the overall level of language awareness of a particular social group or of the whole Polish society can be drawn.
