Polish grammatical terminology in the Polish version of Pierre Danet’s dictionary

Summary/Abstract: The paper characterizes the grammatical terminology used by translator Franciszek Kola in the Polish version of Pierre Danet’s 1743–1745 French-Latin dictionary. The vocabulary has been classified with regard to, among others, the criterion of division, the degree of prevalence and the degree of nativization of borrowings. Moreover, the terms excerpted from Danet’s dictionary have been contrasted with the terms used by other authors of prescriptive works published in the first half of the 18th c. On this basis, widely accepted grammatical vocabulary has been identified and separated from individual terms employed by the author of the Polish version of the dictionary. The article also considers the question of French influence on Polish grammatical terminology.
