Summary/Abstract: Introduction: After the Revolution, Romania has gradually begun to benefit from a legislation which is closer and closer to the society’s needs. The Legislative Decree no. 313 in 1980 was replaced by the Law no. 487/2002, the law concerning mental health and the protection of persons with mental disorders, and in 2006, the law enforcement rules were drafted. The amending and supplementing Law no. 129/2012 to Law no. 487/2002 surprises us with new legislative developments. Mental health legislation is necessary in a society, in order to protect the individuals suffering from mental disorders, they being a vulnerable part of it. In psychiatric nursing, there are two ways of hospitalization: voluntary and non-voluntary. In psychiatric institutions non-voluntary hospitalization of patients with mental disorders can be applied only after all the efforts of voluntary hospitalization have been used. The aim of this study is to underline the bio-psycho-social aspects of the patients non-voluntarily hospitalized in the category of paranoid schizophrenia diagnostic. Material and method. The study is quantitative, retrospective, and data have been interpreted from the observation sheets of the patients who were non-voluntarily hospitalized between October 2002 and July 2012 having paranoid schizophrenia as a diagnostic. The study group included 46 patients non-voluntarily hospitalized in “Socola” Psychiatric Institute Iaşi, over a period of ten years. Results. The average age of the patients coming from urban areas was 39.36, and 52.2 % of all the patients are unemployed, 41.3 % are uninsured, 21.7 % are at their first hospitalization in a psychiatric hospital. Conclusions. The study group shows a high frequency of single, unemployed patients, which demonstrates their difficulties concerning family integration and social insertion. The low degree of awareness or no awareness at all concerning their mental disease lead to a high rate of non-voluntary hospitalizations of the patients belonging to this category of diagnostic.
