Summary/Abstract: The objective of the paper is an attempt to prove that the established in Ukrainian, and not only in Ukrainian language, a view on a refrain Day Bozhe! [Give us God] as aChristianized variant of an interjection with the former pagan theonym Dazhbog may havean alternative one. Comparing views of different scholars on the interjection, and the analysisof its structure, peculiarities of use in Ukrainian popular poetic creative works convinces thatinterjectory idiom Day Bozhe! is older than the stage of its anthropomorphization of gods, and, therefore, older than theonym Dazhbog. That is why lexeme god in its structure mayhave been address-invocation to the only God as the highest substance.
