Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is a description of a linguistic experiment based on the application Jasnopis. Jasnopis is a computer program which uses new methods of measuring the readability of Polish text. The text that has been examined is “Szewczyk Dratewka” by Janina Porazińska, which is a school reading in Polish primary education. The author explains methods of measuring text readability, especially of texts in Polish. She presents rules of operation of Jasnopis and describes the results of the experiment. They prove that from a linguistic point of view „Szewczyk…” is a demanding text and, consequently, it is too difficult as an unsupported, individual reading for pupils at the first stage of Polish education.
