Summary/Abstract: Speaking skills have won during the time more and more importance in German language classes. In this article we will try to proof the significance of these skills and we will look back in the history of the didactics to analyze teaching methods used in different periods of time and to emphasize the tendencies, which brought the speaking skills into a central place of the teaching activities. It will also be presented a teaching model which facilitates the speaking skills, the Boomerang-Model, with very good results in practice.
