Communicative tasks in teaching speaking skills – key decisions in the language classroom

Summary/Abstract: In recent years much has been said about the role of communicative tasks in language education. Tasks have also been employed as effective tools for developing various aspects of communicative competence, particularly speaking skills. However, task-based language teaching is not a unified approach or method. There are different approaches to task-based pedagogy, which results in a variety of proposals for task selection and implementation. The article evaluates these proposals and focuses on significant decisions that need to be taken in this respect in the foreign language classroom.
