Summary/Abstract: The author analyses the relation between Turkey, European Union and the Balkan states as they were considered in the book of Ahmet Davutoğlu “Strategic deepness” and demon-strated in some later events initiated by the Justice and Development Party. The question is posed if the doctrine called “Neo – Ottomanism” is related to the foreign policy (what is the wide spread opinion) or it concerns the internal affairs and is motivated by the short-age of modernization and Europeanization as acknowledged by different segments of the social opinion. Critical analysis have been made of the receptions of the Turkish foreign policy on the Balkans in two directions – “Neo – Ottomanism” and “import” of Islamism. As part of these receptions the Bulgarian complex concerning Turkey and “Turkish slavery” is also interpreted.
