Summary/Abstract: In modern theological literature, especially in liturgical texts, the word ‘presbyter’ often appears, replacing the traditional term for a priest. Through that word the spirit of the New Testament is conveyed and a return to what was original in the Church is conveyed. It seems, however, that the whole return process can also have negative consequences. This article seeks to show how quick the change in name and the transition from presbyteros - elder to presbyteros - priest (sacerdos) were, as well as doubts raised by the proposed change in the terminology of priesthood.
