The Plastic Dimension of the Dream in the Movie Fellini-Satyricon

Summary/Abstract: Concerning the cinematographic art the interpretation of facts disregards literature due to its illustrative nature. The plastic illustration of facts is to destined to bear deep emotions. Natural phenomena become through their plastic illustration symbols that generate emotions. For Fellini light and colour become cinematographic concepts. Their involvment under the axiologic aspect is necessary in order to decipher the sens of the Fellini-Satyricon movie. The fascination of dream is transposed as a necessity in the artistic creation, as he says: „through dreams the individual expresses his most secret part, more mysterious and unexplored, corresponding to the subconsciousness; collectivity, human kind does the same thing through the creation of the artists.” In the dream dimension colour is an element of major importnace because in dreams it may decipher feelings. The theories of Freud and Jung influenced Fellini because the idea of these great thinkers try to suggerate a new point of view, a different attitude, urging us towards a more conscious and open behaviour, to reconcile with the troubled zones, more frustrated, more mortified, more sick in us, thus penetrating into the obscure labyrinth of the human being. In this sense Fellini will put the whole process of artistic creation under the sign of revelatory dream, on the basis of a symbolic plastic, ment to ....affectively with the spectator.
