Curriculum for Graduate Programs in Web Application Development

Summary/Abstract: Boston University Metropolitan College is constantly challenged to provide a relevant state-ofthe- art curriculum in the web technology area as our students are well qualified working professionals in this domain and are highly motivated in upgrading their skills. Additionally due to the challenging economic times currently, employers who approve tuition reimbursement for our students are often willing to do so only if the courses are very relevant to their companies. In this paper we provide an overview of our web-based curriculum at Boston University. We describe the foundation courses in Web Technology and then introduce the related web courses. Since the Web Application Development and Programming field is so diverse we map the courses and skills in this research paper so that students can easily identify or align with their specialization and career goals. We list some relevant skills that employers are looking for in the various areas of web application development. In this paper we also provide an overview of professional career tracks associated with web development courses. Specifically we focus on Information Security and Project Management. This research paper should guide faculty members in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems interested in introducing web-based curricula, and also guide students who are interested in a career associated with web application development.
