Summary/Abstract: The following article deals with the issue of German language skills and the status of German in Poland. Nowadays, Polish export-import companies can benefit from the knowledge of German, apart from the obligatory proficiency in English. What is more, due to numerous German investments in Poland, the German language turns out to be attractive for Polish employees, too. The author focuses on the conditions as well as circumstances of the popularity of German in Poland, the status of German as the language of technology and business, as well as the language policy of institutions dependent on the government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The influence of business on foreign language skills in a specific region is discussed with reference to the Volkswagen Group in Poland.
