Summary/Abstract: Currently we can observe a growing impact of the idea of knowledge society on social and educational policy of European Union countries. Particularly, this involves an economical perspective on social, civil, and educational issues. The paper presents considerations on the epistemological bases of knowledge society as well as their consequences for conceptualising the idea of „education for knowledge society”. It is argued, that the essential meaning of knowledge, which forms the basis for educational policy emerging form the idea of knowledge society, comes down to a dehumanized concept of knowledge without its subject.
