Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the analysis of the concept DEVIL as a representative of the sacral and chthonic spheres of M. Kotsyubynskiy’s story “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors”. Nominative field, semantics and axiological features of this concept have been considered in the research. It has been found out that DEVIL in studied texts is characterized by an extensive system of names; it is polysemantic, ambivalent and manifests itself as a constant of Ukrainian linguistic culture and individual author’s concept.
