Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to present how at the turn of the 20th century the attitude of the inhabitants of Warsaw towards wild birds living in the city was being shaped. The author focuses on objects used to allocate such birds their space within the city, on practices related to birds and discourse concerning this subject. She points to changes that were initiated then, mainly by members of Warsaw Society for the Protection of Animals and journalists publishing in its magazine, „Przyjaciel Zwierząt” (Friend of Animals).
