Summary/Abstract: The book presents various approaches to talking and thinking about animals existng in Polish science, both more traditional and more avant-garde. The authors show the problem from the perspective of sociology, philosophy, literary studies, anthropology, cultural studies and history. They critically scrutinize both the still dominant anthropocentric approaches and proposals that try to transcend anthropocentrism, which are only beginning to settle down in Polish humanities.
