Summary/Abstract: After a brief treatment of the difference between the concepts katabais and nekyia, the paper gives a portrait of Mihail D. Petrushevski and his approach to translating in light of the translation paradigms by Shleiermacher and Jean-Rene-Ladmiral. Furthermore, Bogomil Gjuzel's and Eza Pound's views on myth are contrasted. The paper analyses the starting 22 lines of the 11th Book of the Odyssey (the Odyssean katabasis scene) by considering Homeric epithets, prosody and other formal features of the Homeric source snd Divus' Latin version, on the one hand, and their respective translations by Pound, petrushevski, and Gjuzel, on the other.
