Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the novel The first snows, the first springs, written by L. Marjańska as a kind of prose, which contains, apart from literary fiction, some autobiographical threads and historical as well as topographical data. The action of the book takes place from the end of the winter 1939 until the summer of 1942, in the hometown of the author- Częstochowa. It concerns mainly school but also after-school lives of the schoolgirls from class IIIa of the contemporary junior secondary school, but today’s J. Słowacki secondary school, which the writer attended as Ludmiła Mężnicka. Marjańska based her realistic story about the pre-war and war lives of young people from Częstochowa on her experiences, as well as her friends’, their families’ and teachers’.The book fairly accurately describes the pre-war and wartime Częstochowa, which is confirmed by the articles of Marjańska, her friends and historical accounts of Jan Pietrzykowski, Zbigniew Grządzielski and Stanisław Rybicki.
