Summary/Abstract: The article show that A Family of Central Europe by Maria Czapska can be read as a special kind of historical narrative – a aristocratic family chronicle. This is the formally heterogeneous text, because Czapska does not practice academic history", nonetheless when she is writing a family chronicle, she requires from each other integrity of research, ensures the authenticity of the sources, etc. and doesn’t play with the convention. Despite this Czapska tells the story of a family in an individual way, from her private point of view, on the background of universal history. The question is whether the author is a"servant" of family’s memory or as the author of chronicles is rather a "master" of family’s history.
