Summary/Abstract: The type of ownership, the structure of ownership and related rights and obligations constitute one of the most important determinants of the implementation of the strategy of internationalization and globalization of companies. The aim of the paper is to provide an introductory explanation of the importance of the ownership of company and the related issues of corporate governance, and corporate control in the implementation of the strategy of internationalization. The first part includes theoretical issues, which are illustrated by a rank of examples. The first one is a description of the structure of ownership and control in the Volkswagen Group AG treated as a global company. “Tax havens” are used as the second example of the use of positive and negative features of complexity of ownership of companies operating on the international market. The third example contains the results of research applying the complex networks to identify the most influential multinational enterprises. The last example embodies a description of the European Company (Societas Europaea).
