Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to present and evaluate selected measures of innovativeness of the economy. The first part presents selected simple indicators while the second part focuses on synthetic indicators including the attempt to evaluate the listed measures of innovativeness. It indicates that simple measures are easy to interpret but show only one dimension of innovation eg. in the field of R&D funding, patents or human capital. On the other hand synthetic meters show the complex innovativeness of the economies but the drawback is the large aggregation of data.
