Firm’s success on the home market as a barrier to internationalisation

Summary/Abstract: At present it seems that it is so easy to access foreign markets that every firm successfully operating on the home market should undertake internationalisation. However, the everyday observations and some research results prove that the major share of Polish firms operates on the home market only. The paper presents the results of qualitative research concerning barriers to internationalization carried out on the sample of six Polish firms which succeeded on Polish market but did not become international ones. The research results indicate that although there are many barriers stopping studied firms from internationalisation the most important ones are the managerial barriers. Informational and capital barriers are less important for the studied firms.
