Summary/Abstract: The paper presents an integrated concept, designed to organize the constructs related to self-regulation styles in the learning process. The author compares the most important views concerning the metacognitive aspects of learning styles. The educational aspects of self-regulation are shown in the context of an increasing meaning of distance education. The author analyzes terms such as locus of control, causality orientations and action styles. The analysis allows to distinguish two fundamental components: organizational and subjective. The first component includes goal orientation, planfulness and the degree of selfcontrol. The second component includes autonomy and control orientations. A new term – preference of self-control – is proposed to describe the main subjective component in self-education. The paper describes metacognitive learning styles concerning the postulated components.
