Summary/Abstract: The autonomy of local governments concerning the fulfilment of public commitments does not mean that they have to pursue them on their own. Meeting the targets of their assignments often requires a skilful cooperation with external entities. The meaning of such cooperation has substantially risen after the transition period had begun. The development of market economy as well as handing over the obligations and funds together with responsibility to local governments became mobilizing factors for carrying out joint endeavours with external entities. This paper aims to evaluate the forms and dimensions of local governments’ cooperation with public and private entities conducted so far.
