Summary/Abstract: Introducing people with intellectual disability to religious life requires continuous reflection and seeking the right methodology. Documents of the Church and orthodidactics establish the methodology of religious teaching and serve the family, which creates the most favourable environment in which a human being can grow up. The general thinking on people with intellectual disability is evolving gradually and it is heading towards well-meant integration, normalisation and personalisation. This means that their right to take part in all areas of social life is respected and it implies the need for seeking the most satisfying forms of mutual understanding and cooperation. A child’s development is determined by proper care and stimulation of his/her potential. Educational and therapeutic measures are effective if they draw on inherent human strength and capabilities. These strengths must be discovered in a child and they must be drawn upon in the process of education.
